Friends……….yesterday and today!

I recently read a young friends facebook page.  He’s a good 35 years my junior.  A talented, creative young man with a bright future.

One of his friends was describing the plans she envisioned for this circle of friends.  The first scenario was a rap band, with a guitarist, drummer,  people who would carry their equipment and back up dancers.   If the band didn’t work out she would go to college and become a CSI tech.  She told my young friend that he and another friend could get a job at McDonalds in the drive through.

This post has tickled me for days!  Not just because  the girls imagination was so rich, but because it could have been me over 35 years ago.

When I was his age  I had some great friends.  Smart, funny, imaginative, quirky, serious, artistic, offbeat, loyal and loving.    We looked at the future with no fear.  We would set our sights on the moon and would take the stars captive along the way.  We hardly took life serious, and never thought about  what it would be like in the final chapters.

I look at my friends today.  Some old and some new, much like the friends I had so many years ago.  Smart, funny, imaginative, quirky, artistic, offbeat, loyal and loving.  We may take life a little more serious now, in light of the end of the book, but we are living the future we imagined. (although slightly edited)  We reached for the moon, and are thrilled with all our stellar achievements.

I know I am satisfied, because along the way I have collected an armload of stars; my friends, who inspire me as I dance toward the last chapter.
